Dancing for Everyone
Dance instructor, Margaret Wheeler, will present online and in person classes featuring modern dance. No special skills required, Margaret has made this class adaptable for all ages and abilities. So, no worries if you can't lift and arm or leg very high or if you are in a wheelchair, this dance program will work. No special clothing or shoes are required.
Margaret obtained a Master's in Dance from Mills College in Oakland, CA in 1983. She has taught modern, ballet, tap, African, improvisation and choreography in a wide range of venues in diverse cities. She was the founder and director for the Parabolic Dance Company in Helena, MT, where proceeds were given back to the community in various capacities.
While living in New York city, Margaret studied dance at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater School of Dance. There she adopted her philosophy as was Alvin Ailey's that "I believe that the dance came from the people and that it should always be delivered back to the people." Margaret states that what this means is that dance is for everyone - not just the elite, or well-trained dancers. It's not just for white people, but for all races ethnicities, origins, gender and abilities. Dance is for all of us and it can bring peace, creativity, self-confidence and a connection to our own souls.
